The goal of the music department is to instill a love
for music from the first day of kindergarten through the last day of
6th grade. The music program is a comprehensive program combining classroom
instruction, individual study, and performance opportunities. Classroom
music begins in K-1 focusing on the basic concepts reinforced through
enthusiastic singing, musical games, and movement. In addition, Grades
2-6 study music theory and history. Students begin individual instrumental
instruction in grade 4 and are eligible to be in the Jackson School
Band when they have reached an appropriate level of proficiency. There
are several performances a year, including a Winter and Spring concert,
along with the SAU-wide Louis Fuchs Concert.
